Rexall Care Network

Rexall very much values caregiving in all its forms. This is evident through the creation of the Rexall Care Network, which focusses on caregivers’ health and well-being by providing resources for caregivers, funding caregiver organizations and funding programs that support caregivers. We recognize the importance of caregiving not only to the rest of society, but especially within our company as 25% of our employees are unpaid caregivers. We believe it is essential to take good care of our employees who are unpaid caregivers so they can take good care of the people they love.

We try to support our employees in various aspects of life, including physical, financial, environmental and social. More specifically, we offer flexible work hours within our stores and office as we understand that caregiving can have spontaneously challenging moments that require immediate attention. We believe that physical well-being leads to mental well-being, so we offer discounted gym memberships for our employees. We also offer a number of curated learning courses on caregiving that offer best practices and other resources to better achieve that balance between work responsibilities and care responsibilities. Further, we focus on bringing awareness to the use of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as it has been beneficial for many staff in the past. In particular, our EAP service provider extends discounted rates for mental health and well-being counselling for our staff. These are just some examples of how we emphasize health and well-being, along with providing access to resources and information, to ensure we can best support our staff.

Ultimately, caregiving has been and continues to be something that people may take for granted. However, there has been a shift in the way caregiving is viewed. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated normalizing discussions around mental health and burnout, and the value of balancing care and work responsibilities. Open and honest dialogue is critical to everything we do to ensure we meet employees where they’re at and adjust to their needs.
